ICE Detained Protest

  • 501 East Court Avenue Jeffersonville, IN, 47130 United States (map)

Join us in peaceful protest.

In April 2025 the Clark County jail began incarcerating ICE detainees after signing a financial agreement with federal authorities. Local officials have suggested this money could help offset tax shortfalls.

We reject the notion that balancing budgets can justify stripping people of their dignity and ripping apart families.

Signs and sign material may be available on-site.

Nima Kulkarni—Standing With Our Neighbors: Immigrant Justice & Community Action

  • New Albany Floyd County Public Library Auditorium (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Nima's mission and DSSIN's values are deeply aligned. This is a rare opportunity to learn from someone who has lived the immigrant experience, built institutions to serve immigrant communities, and now carries that work into the halls of the Kentucky legislature.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

  • One-hour presentation on immigration law, the current landscape facing immigrant communities, and pathways for advocacy

  • Community Q&A — bring your questions!

  • Next steps planning for DSSIN's newly formed Justice & Advocacy Team and coalition building opportunities

ABOUT NIMA: Nima's story is the American dream lived and fought for. She immigrated to Louisville from India at age six, watched her parents build a new life running a small neighborhood grocery in Germantown, and went on to intern with Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch before founding Indus Law Firm in 2010. In 2013, she founded the New Americans Initiative to educate and engage communities around immigrant rights. Today she serves as a Kentucky State Representative, advocating for working families and expanded access to opportunity for all.

Open to everyone—DSSIN members, allied organizations, and all community members who care about immigrant justice and human rights. Please share widely!

Community Potluck

Community Potluck

Come to the inaugural DSSI Community Potluck!

Let us know you’re coming on FB here.

Live Music
We’re thrilled to welcome two incredible musical guests:
Tonya Buckler (DSSIN member) Louisville-born, Southern Indiana-based singer-songwriter influenced by Patty Griffin, Indigo Girls, and Heart. Tonya performs with The Fellow Travelers and The Navigators, and is a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer bringing songs of peace and justice to our gathering.

PlumRidge (formerly Dorney & Friends) Dorney, Barb Hawley, and Mike Williams have been making music together in Louisville for decades. With 60+ years of friendship and 20 years of making merry music, they’re bringing a treasure trove of tunes that have made up the soundtrack of our lives. Get ready to sing along!

Delicious Food
Bring your favorite dish to share - whether it’s Grandma’s famous casserole, your go-to potluck contribution, or something completely new. We love variety, so bring whatever makes your heart (and stomach) happy!

Family Friendly
Kids are absolutely welcome! We’ll have activities to keep the little ones entertained while the grown-ups connect, eat, and enjoy the music.

Real Connection
With more than 600 members, many of us have never actually met face-to-face. We’ve stood together at rallies, worked alongside each other in committees, supported each other online - but there’s something irreplaceable about simply being together, sharing a meal, and letting ourselves be known.
