Show up for Kentucky Citizens for Democracy's fight against LifeWise

In Support of Kentucky Citizens for Democracy

📢 Update/Call to Action: LifeWise

Board Chair Carly Clem has confirmed that the OCS Board will meet October 8 at 5:00 pm at the Arvin Center to discuss and vote on the “moral instruction” statute. She indicated that there will be no public expression on the agenda.

Background

Kentucky’s Attorney General recently confirmed that we are a “may” state. This means school districts have the option to not allow student release time from school for programs like LifeWise. The AG emphasized that the Board must submit evidence for their decision and the decision must not be discriminatory towards religion.

The Board is within its rights to reject LifeWise programs because of:

• Loss of more than 30 hours of instructional time each year.

• Devaluing of art, music, library, and technology programs.

• Major scheduling disruptions.

• Liability and insurance risks that could impact taxpayers.

• Loopholes that allow LifeWise staff to directly contact students outside school channels.

• Increased risk of bullying and exclusion.

• Legal exposure around separation of church and state.

• Pressure to approve any moral instruction program (including fringe or harmful groups) once one is approved.

LifeWise has sued parents, threatened organizations, and lobbied legislatures to force districts to adopt their programs. This is not a neutral, community-driven effort—it’s a national push with significant risks.

Call to Action

The Board needs substantial evidence to say “no.” Please contact your board members and remind them of the above reasons.

✅ Please attend the October 8 meeting to send a strong and unified message to the Board and community. Please wear your black KCfD shirt or anything black so that there is a clear visual of our opposition.

Thank you for standing up for all kids, all families, and our public schools.

State of Indiana Election Study Public Meeting (Diego Morales, Secretary of State)

State of Indiana Election Study Public Meeting (Diego Morales, Secretary of State)

Information provided by Benita:

  • As required by HEA 1633 the state has to have 3 meetings to discuss these matters before taking action.

  • This is the second meeting, this one is for the south part of the state.

  • The meeting will be on the matter of restructuring local election timing and requiring counties to use vote centers and not their precinct locations that we still do in Clark County. Restructuring would include Municipal Election (Cities and towns) on the same year they have Presidential elections.

  • Redistricting is not included in this meeting.

From the Clark County Voter Registration Facebook Page's 8/19/25 post:
https://www.facebook.com/share/p/19ts4hC5Wt/

The Clark County Clerk is proud to host Indiana Secretary of State Diego Morales for a public meeting in Clark County. This is your opportunity to share your thoughts on the timing of municipal elections and whether you support or oppose the use of vote centers. This meeting is open to ALL Hoosiers

Clark County Government Center
300 Corporate Dr., Jeffersonville, IN 47130
Friday, September 19th
11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Workers Rise Up & Unite Rally in Corydon

Do Something Southern Indiana is setting up a table at this event.

Link to Facebook Event

Description of event:

Our next rally is set. Please join us as we peacefully call for better workers’ rights. We are tired of big corporations and billionaires having more rights than hard working Hoosiers, whom are just trying to keep food on the table and pay bills. Please bring signs, some friends, or just come yourself. All are welcome. Party affiliation doesn't matter. We are all in this together and we all deserve better pay, representation, unions, healthcare, and more time off.

We will have some special guests at this rally! The Raging Grannies will be out in the square preforming some of their famous songs! We will also have Do Something Southern Indiana, Indivisible Southern Indiana, and Mad Voters out as well! They will have materials to hand out and will try to answer any questions you may have.

We are also collecting canned goods and cleaning supplies for the community center in Corydon. Our local families are struggling to keep up with the high prices of food, goods, rent, and more. This is a small way we can help lift a bit of their burden.

Hope to see you there!

IN YOUR Vehicle PROTEST at Erin Houchin Fundraiser

It is rumored that Jim Jordan will join Erin Houchin at her fundraiser on Thursday which begins at 5:30pm. This is a pop up protest without much organization. Since there is no close public space, the plan is to decorate cars and put protest signs in the car windows. Protest will occur as cars are driving to the property, around on property, and sitting in the parking lot. Feel free to pop in the winery to have a cold beverage (if driving, make sure to drink responsibly). Visitors must be off premises by 6pm.

Protest Ideas:

Less Schmoozing, More Listening

 Town Halls: Where Democracy Lives

Fundraising ≠ Representing

Access Should Be Equal, Not Expensive

Schedule Town Halls Now!

 Transparency Over Campaign Cash

Listen to Voters, Not Just Donors

Public Servant = Serve the Public

Ignoring Us Won’t Silence Us

Protest at Todd Young's Office - Visibility Protest Against Big Bad Bill

  • 3602 Northgate Court New Albany, IN, 47150 United States (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

We will start at Todd Young's Grantline Rd. Office and walk out to the road to be visible.

Senator Todd Young voted YES on the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” — a massive piece of legislation that prioritizes corporations and the wealthy while slashing healthcare, safety nets, and long-term support for working families.

We’re showing up to say: this bill is NOT beautiful — it’s devastating.

This visibility protest is a peaceful, powerful way to let our neighbors know what’s in this bill and who it really helps. We’ll be on the sidewalks with signs, banners, and facts.

WHAT'S IN THE BILL:
Over $900 billion in cuts to Medicaid

$45 billion allocated over four years to build detention centers—including for families—creating space for over 100,000 people per day

Work requirements that risk throwing people off food assistance

Tax breaks tilted toward the ultra-wealthy

Billions for military contractors, but crumbs for public housing

A projected $4–5 trillion increase in the national debt

Senator Todd Young called it a “strong bill.”
We call it a betrayal of Hoosiers.

Good Trouble Day – Honoring Congressman John Lewis

See the website GoodTroubleLivesOn.org

Across America, Let's Make Good Trouble
"Get in good trouble
, necessary trouble, and help redeem the soul of America" -Congressman John Lewis

Good Trouble Lives On is a national day of action to respond to the attacks on our civil and human rights by the Trump administration. Together, we’ll remind them that in America, the power lies with the people.

Coined by civil rights leader Congressman John Lewis, "Good Trouble" is the action of coming together to take peaceful, non-violent action to challenge injustice and create meaningful change.

The civil rights leaders of the past have shown us the power of collective action. That’s why on July 17, five years since the passing of Congressman John Lewis, communities across the country will take to the streets, courthouses, and community spaces to carry forward his fight for justice, voting rights, and dignity for all.

A core principle behind all Good Trouble Lives On events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.

Contact. For general inquiries, please email us at info@goodtroubleliveson.org. Members of the media, please email us at media@goodtroubleliveson.org with inquiries.

Please join us July 12th to help make plans on what we want to concentrate on, how to organize and be involved, and plan the frequency of ICE protests. Feel free to bring a friend.

Join our Facebook Group and if you can, in preparation for the meeting: (1) Answer the 4 Poll Questions out on the discussion board, and (2) Bring an item to donate to the food pantry.

After the meeting, we can gather elsewhere to connect and unwind. No set plan for where; we are open to ideas when we finish up. There is another event in Louisville that runs until 8PM if we want to venture across the river. That event is posted here on in our group's EVENTS tab.

Looking forward to all your positive energy to make a difference!
